Judy and Maria's Personal Impressions of the Iberostar Cozumel
The Iberostar Cozumel Resort is located on the island of Cozumel. Cozumel is Mexico's largest island, nestled just 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cozumel measures 28 miles long & 10 miles wide, and is world renown for it's dazzling white sandy beaches and the remarkable clarity of the multi-hued azure Caribbean ocean in which it rests. We traveled to Cozumel on the ferry from Playa del Carmen.
Ferry Information: With new fast boats, regular schedules and convenient service you can be in Cozumel in 30 minutes departing from Playa del Carmen starting as early as 4:00 AM to as late as 11:00 PM.
You may buy your tickets right before you depart, or they can be bought in advance. Space on the boats is enough for the demand of passengers so you do not have to worry about availability. The approximate cost for a round trip Playa del Carmen-Cozumel-Playa del Carmen is about 16 USD per person.
During the ride you will be able to watch TV ads of Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, which contain useful information on both places, and in most boats you can also sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
We arrived at the hotel mid-day. Our first impressions of the hotel were of a true natural environment -- “green and vibrant.” From the
entrance of the open-aired lobby we viewed bright flowers, flamingos, peacocks, palm trees, mangroves, and ferns. The resort is tropical, alluring, and welcoming.
The resort is a short twenty-minute drive from the Cozumel Ferry Pier. The all-inclusive resortis a wonderful resort selection for those electing to vacation in Cozumel. This hotel has gone through a complete renovation since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. The hotel has a fresh, clean look and feel throughout the entire complex.
The hotel is situated in an ideal location near the famous Palancar Reef. Palancar Reef is rated one of the top five dive sites in the world. It’s a 3-mile/5-km tract comprised of several sites with distinct profiles. Palancar Shallows, also called Palancar Gardens, slopes from 15 to 70 feet/5 to 21 m. Palancar Horseshoe, known as the underwater Grand Canyon of the Caribbean, features massive coral pillars, canyons, labyrinths of swim-throughs, Nassau grouper and deepwater fans. Palancar Caves is honeycombed with caves and tunnels.
